ambassadorAt a brief ceremony on Thursday 16th August 2007, His Excellency Mr. Tamsir Jallow, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of The Gambia to the United Nations formally presented his credentials to the United Nations Secretary-General H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon.

In presenting his credentials, Ambassador Jallow conveyed the fraternal greetings of H.E. Dr. Alhaji Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh, President of the Republic of The Gambia to the Secretary-General.  He then went on to reaffirm The Gambia’s unflinching commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.  He reassured the Secretary-General that.

The Gambia would continue to play an active role in the realization of the United Nations’ mission, especially in the areas of development, peace and security. Ambassador Jallow reiterated a number of other responsibilities taken on by The Gambia in furtherance of the ideals and objectives of the UN which include, among other things, the early realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), peacebuilding and conflict resolution, the advancement of women and the elimination of all forms of discrimination against them.   

In accepting Ambassador Jallow’s credentials, H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon recalled his two visits to The Gambia in 2002 and 2006.  He expressed his satisfaction with the audience he had with the President and the warm hospitality accorded his delegation on those visits.  The Secretary-General further expressed his strong desire to work with Ambassador Jallow towards the achievement of the goals of the United Nations. Ambassador Jallow was accompanied by Mr. Habib T. B. Jarra, Deputy Permanent Representative and Mr. Lamin Faati, First Secretary at the Mission.
